    2009 Annual Art Auction

The Cultural Council of Cortland County is once again joining forces with The
1890 House Museum to sponsor the  2009 Annual Art Auction

Donated art work will be on view at The 1890 House, festively decorated for the
holidays from November 23rd through January 5th. Hours of operation are
Thursday -Saturday, 1 - 4 pm  The public is welcome to drop by and place silent
bids on the art work during this time.

Among its many efforts, the Cultural Council of Cortland County sponsors the
Seven Valley Arts Trail, provides a gallery space and workshop room available to
local and regional artists, sponsors the Cortland Arts and Wine Festival, and
serves as a clearing house and informational resource for area events and artist
opportunities through its websites and e-newsletter.

The 1890 House Museum is one of Cortland County's few museums.  It is open to
the public three afternoons each week, with additional hours available upon
request.  A testament to the "golden days", the Museum shows the rich results of
the Industrial Age here in Cortland County.  The Museum relies on private
donations, tourism funds, admissions, local grants and fundraisers to keep its
doors open and the lights on.

    How to participate:

Paintings and other works of art may be dropped off at The 1890 House, 37
Tompkins Street, Thursday through Saturday, from 1 - 4 pm, or at the Picture
House, 85 Homer Avenue, during regular business hours.  Call 753-7786 for more
    information.

Artists will receive 30% of the sale of their donated work, while supporting the local
arts and heritage of the Cortland community.  The remaining proceeds will be
equally shared by the two organizations to support their programs.

Bess will have holiday music played for the traditional ballroom dances during
general dancing. There will be little, if any, instruction EXCEPT for the FUN dances
that will keep all dancing (walking)  with everyone, hopefully captivated by a
    holiday spirit.

This dance will be a good time to bring friends who might think they “can’t dance”,
or maybe afraid to try!  In the past it was suggested that whoever wishes to do so,
bring dessert (or whatever) for the table, to add to the sociability of the night!
Attendees will decide what dances will be taught!
